Client Requirement
The client wanted to commission a large white marble Pietà statue, paired with a separate marble platform, for display in a church.
After the project was confirmed, the client requested a very important customization: to add the Latin inscription “Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam” on the marble platform, giving the sculpture not only a display function but also special commemorative significance.
As the project progressed, the statue's placement was finalized as outdoors, so the base dimensions, stone protection, and subsequent lifting and installation became important considerations to address in advance.
Our Solution
01 | Customizing the Statue and Platform for the Display Space
The project used natural white marble, with an overall height of approximately 86". The statue itself is about 70" tall, set on a marble platform approximately 16" high.
The statue and platform were designed as separate pieces, to be handled individually during transportation and on-site installation, making it easier to pack, move, and install such a large stone sculpture.

02 | Integrating the Commemorative Inscription into the Marble Platform
In addition to the statue itself, the client placed great importance on the inscription on the platform.
Before carving, we confirmed the inscription content, font, and spacing with the client, and repeatedly reviewed renderings together.
The client requested more space between the cross decoration and the inscription, and wanted the lettering to have a more pronounced three-dimensional and shadowed effect. After adjusting the layout and receiving client approval, we proceeded with the actual carving.
This step is especially important for custom sculptures featuring inscriptions, dates, or commemorative content, as these details are also an integral part of the finished work.

03 | Adjusting from Indoor Display to Outdoor Installation
The project was initially planned for indoor display, so the early recommendation was for a concrete base of at least 80” x 48”.
As the project progressed, the client and church ultimately decided to place the statue outdoors, hoping to make it visible to more people. This change in installation environment meant that the stability of the base and the long-term protection of the natural stone in outdoor conditions needed to be reconsidered.
For the new outdoor installation, we recommended increasing the concrete base to about 96" x 64" or larger, and suggested that the client confirm the final foundation plan based on the site's soil, geological conditions, and actual construction requirements.
For stone protection, we performed two rounds of protective treatment before the statue left our facility, and advised the client to apply another treatment after on-site installation, to minimize the impact of transport and long-term outdoor exposure on the marble surface.

04 | Coordinating Lifting for a Large Sculpture in Advance
The combined weight of the statue and platform is about 6 metric tons, with the statue weighing approximately 3,500 kg and the platform about 2,500 kg.
For a large natural stone sculpture of this scale, delivery to the site is not the end of the project. Unloading, lifting, and safe placement all require advance planning before shipment.
Therefore, before the statue arrived, the client began communicating with a local crane team and repeatedly confirmed the weights, packaging methods, and on-site lifting considerations with us.
To facilitate transport and on-site handling, we packed the statue and platform separately, with pallet structures at the base of the wooden crates for forklift handling. If a crane is used on site, lifting straps must be positioned at the base of the statue according to its structure, to avoid damaging the stone during lifting.
Once shipping began, the client continued to coordinate with the local lifting team and arranged for a flatbed truck, making it easier to unload and lift the pieces upon arrival at the site.

Design & Production Process
The entire project followed this process:
Size and plan confirmation → Inscription layout confirmation → Marble carving → Surface polishing → Engraving → Finished product inspection → Client confirmation → Packaging → Shipping
After the statue was completed, we first sent finished photos to the client for confirmation.

The client responded after seeing the finished result:
“It’s absolutely gorgeous.”
