This is a natural stone bathroom project located in New Jersey, USA.
The project initially began with the search for a natural stone bathtub that could be delivered quickly. As the design became more defined, the procurement scope expanded to a full set of coordinated natural stone products, including a Nero Marquina black marble bathtub, two matching washbasins, a Moonlight Beige Limestone pedestal sink, and Nero Marquina slabs for local fabrication.

Client Requirements
The core requirement at the start of this project was very clear: The project timeline was tight, so the client hoped to select a natural stone bathtub similar to their reference and available in stock, rather than custom-making a new bathtub from scratch.
In December 2024, the design team first contacted us to look for an in-stock sandstone bathtub, focusing on confirming the bathtub's dimensions, drain location, and internal structure.
As the design progressed, the material direction shifted. The design team began considering a deeper, more visually striking black natural marble, and ultimately chose Nero Marquina Marble as the main material.
By March 2025, the project requirements had evolved beyond "just a bathtub."
The client wanted the bathtub, two washbasins, and countertop stone to share a unified material language, while also introducing a lighter-colored natural stone pedestal sink for contrast. All pieces were to have a honed finish.
Thus, the final procurement scope became:
- 1 Nero Marquina marble bathtub
- 2 custom Nero Marquina washbasins
- 1 Moonlight Beige Limestone pedestal sink
- Nero Marquina slabs
- All main stonework with honed finish
Additionally, due to a tight construction schedule, the client requested that we minimize production and shipping time as much as possible.
Our Solution
01 | Sourcing the Right Bathtub from Stock
Given the tight timeline, we did not immediately suggest custom manufacturing a new bathtub. Instead, we searched our existing inventory for products that could meet the project's needs. In March 2025, we provided the design team with two in-stock Nero Marquina bathtubs:
First Option
67" L × 34" W × 22" H
Second Option
71" L × 34" W × 24" H
Both bathtubs originally had a polished surface, but could be refinished before shipping.
After further comparison, the client chose the larger, second option.
02 | Unifying Nero Marquina Stone & Honed Finish
The client wanted consistency among the black marble products, but did not want a highly glossy, mirror-like finish.
It was decided that the Nero Marquina bathtub, both washbasins, and the slabs would all be finished with a honed finish.
The client also specifically requested that the finished Nero Marquina have a more natural, slightly aged or distressed look, rather than a highly polished, reflective surface.
This meant the project was not simply a matter of shipping a stock bathtub, but required refinishing to better achieve the designer's intended overall effect.
03 | Expanding from a Bathtub to a Complete Stone Set
After finalizing the bathtub, the client asked if matching Nero Marquina washbasins could be made. Based on the client's reference designs, we confirmed that two custom washbasins could be fabricated from existing stone: 22" L × 18" W × 6" H Nero Marquina washbasins.
Meanwhile, the design team also wanted to add a light-colored natural stone pedestal sink to contrast with the black Nero Marquina.
We proposed Moonlight Beige Limestone as the material, and finalized:
Diameter 18" × Height 36"
Also with a honed finish.
Thus, what began as a search for a single bathtub evolved into a complete set of natural stone products.
04 | Preparing Nero Marquina Slabs for Local Fabrication
In addition to the finished bathtub and washbasins, the design team needed Nero Marquina slabs for other on-site stonework.
We sourced a slab approximately 285 × 187 cm, with a thickness of 1.8 cm.
The design team confirmed that this slab would meet their needs and planned to have it shipped directly to a local stone fabricator in New Jersey for further fabrication.
This meant the order was split into two delivery routes:
Bathtub & washbasins → Project address
Stone slab → Local stone fabricator
By splitting the logistics in advance, the slab did not need to be re-shipped after arriving at the project site, streamlining the process.
CAD & On-Site Plumbing Coordination
Natural stone bathtubs differ from standard, mass-produced tubs.
Since the client needed to prepare on-site plumbing in advance, the bathtub's exact dimensions would directly affect drain placement and construction.
On March 26, 2025, the client specifically requested:
“I need very specific measurements for plumbing.”
Before shipping, we provided a detailed CAD drawing of the selected Nero Marquina bathtub so the on-site team could plan plumbing based on the actual product dimensions.
After receiving the drawing, the client replied:
“This is perfect, thank you!”
The value of this step was not just in providing a product dimension drawing, but in ensuring coordination between stone production and on-site plumbing preparation before shipment, reducing the risk of having to modify plumbing after the product arrived.
Production Process
For this project, we recommend presenting the production process as the following visual story:

During honing, the original slab was damaged, so it was adjusted to two pieces of 112" × 36" slabs, with confirmation from the design team.
⑤ CAD Coordination
Providing the bathtub CAD drawing to help the on-site team complete plumbing preparation in advance.
⑥ Pre-Shipment Approval
After production and finishing, we sent photos of the bathtub, washbasins, and slabs to the client for final confirmation.
Client confirmation:
“Everything looks very good!”
We then proceeded to packing and shipping.
⑦ Packing & Shipping
After confirmation, we arranged separate shipments for the bathtub/washbasins and the stone slabs.
