Honed Marble Finish

Honing is achieved through successive stages of mechanical abrasion.

The marble is initially ground to establish a flat, uniform surface. Progressively finer abrasives then remove machining marks and refine the stone.

Unlike polishing, the process concludes before a high-gloss surface is developed.

The final degree of sheen depends on the abrasive sequence, the mineral characteristics of the marble, and the specified finish.

The principal architectural quality of honed marble is its controlled reflectivity.

Under natural or directional lighting, the surface produces a relatively diffuse response rather than the pronounced reflections associated with polished stone.

This makes it particularly effective in interiors where marble is intended to complement timber, plaster, brushed metal, or other matte materials.

Minor surface scratches and acid etching may be less conspicuous than on polished marble. However, honing does not eliminate the stone's susceptibility to staining or chemical damage.
